Get involved

Come join the HorsePower volunteer family.

Thank you for considering volunteering with Colorado HorsePower. Without volunteers we could not operate our program.

Volunteering improves the lives of our participants, and it will enhance yours as well. It is said that there is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a person. Come and find out what that is.

Volunteers are needed throughout the week and at weekends.

Our schedules are flexible. We can accommodate volunteers who can only join us a couple of times a month as well as those who would like to be here several days a week, and we can sign off community service hours. Apply below and we will contact you to schedule an orientation that fits your schedule.

The roles we need

Trainers

Experienced horse people who can teach. If you can run a lesson, work a round pen, or coach someone through their first ride, this is the role with the longest waiting list.

Horse care

Feeding, grooming, turnout, tacking, and keeping an eye on the herd's condition. The horses are the program, and they need looking after every day of the week.

Ranch maintenance

Fencing, arena footing, the round pen, the barn, equipment, and the hundred small repairs a working ranch needs. Practical skills go a very long way here.

Horse preparation alongside participants

Working beside veterans and first responders as they catch, groom, tack and prepare their horse. This is hands-on time with the people the program exists for, and it is where a lot of the real work happens.

Beyond the arena

  • Spread the word about HorsePower in the community
  • Recruitment of participants and volunteers
  • Seeking new donors and sponsors
  • Community service projects and high school service requirements
  • Administrative support, database entry, newsletters and emails

HorsePower accepts applications from volunteers age 14 and above.
